Why is 'natural character' important?

Natural character also plays an important economic role in directly supporting this country’s tourism and film industries and adding value to exports by enhancing New Zealand’s ‘clean and green’ image. High quality landscapes can strengthen local economies by attracting residents and investment to an area, as well as tourists.
