Regional Plans
Regional Councils must prepare a regional coastal plan and may prepare other regional plans to assist the regional council to carry out its RMA functions. A regional plan must include objectives for the region, policies to implement the objectives and rules to implement the policies. Regional plans must give effect to the NZCPS, any other relevant national policy statements, the relevant regional policy statement and national planning standards. An example of a regional plan is the Regional Coastal Environment Plan for the Canterbury Region which can be viewed here.
