Environment Court

The Environment Court (called the Planning Tribunal prior to 1997) is a judicial body established under Part 11 of the Resource Management Act. It hears and decides on a wide range of matters under the Resource Management Act, as well as some matters under other legislation. The Court has registries in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch and sits in a number of courthouses in different parts of the country as required. The Court is currently headed by Chief Environment Court Judge D A Kirkpatrick.
