Minister of Energy and Resources and Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
The Minister of Energy and Resources:
- Oversees the management of the Crown mineral estate;
- Controls allocation and management of petroleum and mineral permits;
- Manages geoscience data;
- Ensures well-functioning and competitive energy markets;
Promotes energy productivity and efficiency improvements; and - Supports the transition to a lower carbon economy.
The Minister is supported by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (previously the Ministry of Economic Development), through New Zealand Petroleum & Minerals. New Zealand Petroleum & Minerals is responsible for which developing Crown minerals programmes, processing prospecting, exploration and mining permits, collecting royalties and enforcing mining regulations
